I hope you have a Great Week! I'm not sure how often I will get on this week. Mommie is going to Louisiana to visit her Sister-in-law and I will be staying with my human brother. I will miss Mommie. She leaves after work Wedmnesday morning and will be back Sunday. Than she works Sunday night. So it will be a real bad week for me. Keep the comments coming please, I'll love reading them when Mommie gets back.

This was an article that ran in our local paper regarding smoke and its effects on Animals. Thought it would be interesting to everyone. It ran in May of this year.

Pets need help to breathe easy, too
By JACQUE ESTESIt didn't matter if the smoke was from local fires or those burning in Georgia, the result was the same -- it was making being outdoors uncomfortable.
Donna Howard, director of the Flagler Humane Society, says the dogs in their care have also felt the effect of the fires. "We would take our dogs outside and they were rubbing their noses within 10 minutes," she said.
To remedy the problem, the shelter staff is limiting the time the dogs are outside and Howard recommends that pet owners in the area do the same, and change their air conditioning filters at least once a month for everyone's health and comfort.
"The smoke bothers the pets just as it does you," she said.
While all dogs and cats can suffer from the smoke there are breeds that are more susceptible to ill effects. Short nose dogs like pugs, Boston terriers and Shih Tzus should be kept inside an air-conditioned area when smoke is thick in the air.
"It really is not good for them," Howard said. "These breeds have enough trouble with the heat in Florida. Adding smoke to it just compounds their breathing problems."
Howard said that older and overweight dogs should also be watched more carefully and kept indoors.
There are those who can't imagine a day without taking a walk with their dog. For these people Howard recommends picking a time when the air is clearest. "Take your dog on shorter walks while the air is clear," she said. "If you are walking for exercise, try something else like tossing a ball or playing with a toy."
Garages are generally no place for a pet but in a pinch can make a good play area for you and your pup. Remove the cars, lower the door and let your dog run around. Dogs should never be left alone in the garage; there are just too many toxic items for them to get into.
A QUILT FOR THE ANIMALSAnimal lover Coralee Leon has created a beautiful, two-sided quilt, to help raise money for the homeless animals at the Flagler Humane Society. One side is a more traditional animal theme pieced pattern while the flip side is a whimsical creation around the "dogs playing cards" image. The quilt and a brand new headboard will be awarded to the lucky ticket holder on Labor Day weekend. Tickets are $1 per ticket and $5 for seven tickets. Tickets are available at the shelter.
MAY SPECIALDuring the month of May adult dogs and cats older than a year are available at discounted adoption costs of $50 for dogs and $25 for cats.
Flagler Humane Society shelter, 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Log onto flaglerhumanesociety.org for information, or call (386) 445-1814.
Our dry weather is leading to more alligator sightings in Central Florida and Tuesday, a dog became the latest victim.
Investigators in Daytona Beach say an alligator attacked a Yorkshire terrier at a lake in the Grand Champion subdivision.
Police say the dog's owner was taking pictures of a golf course, when the dog went to take a drink the lake and was pulled under.
The owner went into the lake to try to save the dog but it was too late.
Officials say our current drought is forcing gators out of their current locations, as they hunt for water.
Wildlife workers are now looking for the alligator, which is believed to be between 8 and 10 feet long.

I don't have time to send individual hello's again today, so here I am to wish all of you a very happy Tuesday. Things ok here. Off to bed with Mommie. You guessed it she worked again last night and than works again tonight. Than she's off Yeah!!!!
