30th Anniversary Celebration

In just 3 months Last Hope will celebrate our 30th Anniversary by having a fabulous Dinner Thursday November 10th at the fantastic Woodbury Country Club located at 884 Jericho Turnpike Woodbury, New York 11797. We are anticipating an excellent turnout for the event – well over 300 people, and are hoping that you will help us celebrate this milestone

The official invitations will go out around September 15th but we wanted to be sure everyone has an opportunity to be a part of this special evening. So we are giving all of the details now so you can plan your participation in this special event.

The theme will be It’s Reigning Cats & Dogs. The Dinner will be from 6-11 and will include a sit down Dinner, Full Open Bar, Live and Silent Auctions, Raffles and a 50-50. There will be a fabulous show featuring Long Island’s own famous Doo Wop group “Still in Style” and DJ entertainment will be provided by “Get Your Groove On“.

Early reservations are highly recommended as we expect it to sell out. The price of $ 75.00 includes a cocktail hour, a sit down dinner with choice of Entrée and full open bar.

We have several ways that you can participate in making this evening a success. Each option will have a link to an interactive form (in other words one that is fillable online) that you can either fill out on line and print or you can download, print, fill out and mail in with your preferred method of payment. Westminster Announces Changes In Show Limit And Judging For 2012

The Westminster Kennel Club today announced a number of changes for its annual show February 13-14, 2012 at Madison Square Garden in New York City made necessary because of the ongoing renovation work at the Garden.

Most notable of these changes is a reduced show limit of 2,000 entries, a direct result of the loss of benching space in the Expo Center during the renovation project. The entry limit had changed on occasion since the show's inception in 1877, but has been 2,500 since 1982. That entry limit has always been reached very quickly each year.

"We are encouraged that, upon completion, the Garden's renovation will provide more benching space and an efficient setup for our show," said Westminster Show Chairman Thomas H. Bradley, 3d. "But for now, we have to make some adjustments that are in the best interests of the dogs and the competitors, while continuing to provide reasonable access for spectators, as well."

Entry procedures will remain the same as in recent years, with the top five dogs in each breed or variety (in breed points for the first ten months of 2011) being invited to pre-enter, with the remaining entry slots being filled in an open process. There are 185 breeds and varieties eligible for Westminster in 2012. Entry rules will be available in the premium list posted on the Westminster website in October.

The Club also announced that all breed judging and benching for the Toy breeds on Monday and the Terrier breeds on Tuesday will take place in the theater in the Madison Square Garden complex. Preliminary judging in Junior Showmanship will also take place in the theater.

All Group competition and the Junior Showmanship finals will still be held in the main arena.

The exhibitor entrance for all dogs remains the same as in the past.

The Alternative Benching Format first used in 2011 will once again have breeds groomed at their benching areas. Additional details will be available on the website and in the Premium List, and diagrams will be mailed with the Judging Program.

We are planning a major software upgrade to PetsPlaces during the next 72 hours. We would appreciate your patience and understanding as our goal is to improve the overall experience while you, our loyal members, socialize with other pet-friendly members.

Our adopt-a-thon will be held June 25th & 26th, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and is being sponsored by ASPCA and PetSmart Charities.

This will be a “fee-waived” event and you do not need to be a resident of Missouri to adopt. All animals will be spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, collared and ID tagged, current on all age appropriate vaccines, cats tested for FeLeuk & FIV, dogs for heartworm. Dogs will also be “SAFER” tested for aggression. There will be a “goodie-bag for all animals and a carrier for cats.

All adoptions will be on a first come basis at the adopt-a-thon on June 25th and 26th.

WE WILL BE UNABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON SPECIFIC ANIMALS PRIOR TO THE ADOPT-A-THON.

ALL potential adopters will be screened with our usual process and we will follow up on all adoptions by phone to make sure the adoptions are working out. We will also answer any questions that may have arisen subsequent to the adoption during this call.

We will not make this adoption contingent on the fact that the original owners may come back to reclaim the animals. If an adopter wants to volunteer to do this, they may.

We will have adoption counselors situated throughout the whole compound to ensure good matches with pets and potential families.

SPECIAL NEEDS PETS: We are putting together a photo album with descriptions of our special needs pets. These will be posted on our Facebook page and our website. All special needs pets will be applied for and approved IN ADVANCE.

The special needs pets will run the gamut from temporary medical care such as a broken leg to senior animals, FeLeuk or FIV positive cats or heartworm positive dogs.

We will post the information about our special needs pets on this page and our Facebook page by Monday, June 20th.
