I saw a Manatees!
Posted March 31, 2007 by Tavi

Foster-father took Vladdy and I down to the beach today on New River by Beer Can Lake.  It's not really a lake, people just call it that.

He was throwing the frisbee in the water and we would swim out and get it.  Vladdy swam out three times and then plopped down on the shore to work on his tan.  So I had to go get the frisbee.

So I swam out and got it, but there was this big thing in the water and suddenly it came up and it blew water at me.  It scared me so bad I swam back to shore like my tail was on fire, ran straight back to the SUV and hid under it.  I totally forgot the frisbeeeeee!!!!!!

So foster-father was laughing at me and saying come back her you coward, it's just a manatee!  I don't care, it was scarey looking and I AM a coward!  What if it wanted to eat me?

So foster-father had to go get the frisbee himself.  Everyone was making a fuss over the manatees.  Vladdy was barking at it, but wouldn't go in the water.  He wouldn't even get his toes wet. (And I get called a coward?) Foster-father said he was sorry he didn't have any lettuce to give it.

They eat lettuce?????  Does that mean they can come up on the shore?????  He finally took us home and I went in the bedroom and hid.  Foster-father had to drag me outside later to use the bathroom, I didn't even want to go out in the yard because I thought it was going to  be in the yard looking for lettuce!

Manatee

This is not the mantee I saw. Foster-father did not have a camera with him.  I found this one the internet just to show you how SCAREY it looks!  I'm never going in the water again or at least, never again until tomorrow!!!!!!

Interesting Story
Posted March 26, 2007 by Tavi

I found this story interesting, as many humans seem to think we don't recognize our own siblings.  But certainly, we do!

Lost Lab brothers meet at dog daycare

LA CROSSE, Wis. - They were called Wallace and Gromit, a couple of abandoned yellow Labrador retriever siblings who wound up at the Coulee Region Humane Society. The pups were 5 months old last June when they were adopted out, but to separate homes. Months later, Pat Kucera at Diggity Dog Daycare noticed two yellow Labs named Levi and Cooper would "play like crazy" every time they got the chance during visits to his facility.

"They love playing chase, ring around the picnic table and face wrestling on the couches," Kucera said.

When he mentioned their behavior to their respective owners, Cyndy Lamb remembered the other pup she never forgot — the one that was with Cooper when she took him home from the humane society.

She asked Denice Mack, owner of Levi, about her dog's past and found out she too adopted her dog last June.

"When she said he was 5 months old when she got him, my heart stopped," Lamb said.

"I was so excited," Mack said, "because when we adopted (Levi), we knew there was another yellow Lab out there, and we wanted to find him and get together with him."

Mack and her husband Curt said they're hoping to set up play dates outside the daycare for the two long-lost Labs.

"I'm definitely going to take them up on that," Lamb said.

Tavi! Terror of the Airwaves!
Posted March 22, 2007 by Tavi

I was born in Key West, Florida, which is where my human mom was living at the time she got me.

She was working for WOZN radio on the Island of Bones (is that a great name for a place, or what?) and found out about me at a Superbowl Party at the Stick N Stein Bar.

When I was a puppy, Mom was working the night shift at the radio, from 2 to 6 am, and she would take me into work with her to keep her company during the long night. There's not much going on during that time frame and not a whole lot of phone calls either.

Anyway, one night I was there and in the middle of her shift, suddenly, all the music stopped and the station board went black. That seemed kind of odd, especially as the power was on and there'd not been an engery spike or a thunderstorm or anything. She ran through all the checks and stuff, trying to find the problem, but finally gave up and had to call the technician, getting him out of bed at 4 in the morning.

He came down to the station and they went over everything together. I was kind of sitting in the corner, trying to stay out of the way, because you could tell it was very important what they were doing.

But they were both baffled. "This happened earlier this week," the technician said, trying to remember what the problem had been. "It happened because..."

And he looked down at where I was sitting. Uh-Oh...I thought, I hope I didn't do anything!

He came over picked me up and handed me to my mom, and pressed a button under where I was sitting. Everything started working again!

He nodded. "Someone kicked the cover off the kill switch, and of course it's down on the floor and everyone keeps stepping on it," he said.

Kill switch? What's that?

At least the guy was nice and didn't give her a hard time about bringing me to work, and she didn't get yelled at for the incident.

Anyway, Mom got a styrofoam coffee cup and duct taped it over the button so I couldn't sit on it anymore. And I guess so that none of the humans could step on it either!

My Most Embarrassing Moment
Posted March 19, 2007 by Tavi

I don't like to tell this because it is just so embarassing but...We were at the beach and someone had brought a Siamese Cat with them to the beach. I don't know who would bring a cat to the beach, but they did. In any case, I kept after that cat, you know, nosing after it and all to see what it would do. I chased it up a little tree at one point, so this was fun and I didn't want to leave it alone.

I guess the cat got tired of this, because suddenly it jumped onto my back, and latched on with all four sets of claws. Yoooowwwwwiiieeeeee! Did that hurt!!!!!

I went galloping down the beach, but it kept hanging on, and so I ran into the water, figuring cats didn't like water. But it kept hanging on! I stopped really fast and it finally went flying over my head, right into the surf!

That cat stood in the surf, hissing and spitting, and I was scared to death that monster was going to hurt me again, so I tucked tail and went running back to to mom and hid under the chairs just like the whipped puppy I was!

I know I'm supposed to be a big fierce wolf-dog, but really, I'm a scaredy-pup and not aggressive at all. You just show me who's boss and I'll believe you and boy, that cat sure showed me who was boss!

Needless to say, I walked real quiet around that cat the rest of the day!
